The rainbow effect in amethysts is caused by natural cracks and inclusions in the crystal that break and reflect light, resulting in a shimmering play of colors. These special crystal formations, which look like flowers, form through the even and slow layering of quartz layers, often influenced by temperature changes and the chemical makeup of the surrounding water.
