The Muonionalusta meteorite formed over 4.5 billion years ago in the early phase of our solar system. It developed in the core of an ancient asteroid between Mars and Jupiter.

After massive cosmic collisions, this celestial body broke apart, and fragments traveled through space for millions of years.

About one million years ago, one of these fragments entered the Earth's atmosphere as a glowing shooting star and landed in what is now northern Sweden, where it was discovered in the 20th century.
