Recognizing real crystals – How to distinguish them correctly 💎

How to distinguish natural stones from fakes

Crystals aren't just beautiful—they carry an energy that has fascinated us for centuries. Unfortunately, not only is interest booming, but so is the market for fake, dyed, or synthetic stones . So how do you know if you're holding a real crystal—or just a pretty illusion?

1. 🌈 Beware of too strong colors

If an amethyst suddenly turns bright purple or a rose quartz turns bubblegum pink , caution is advised. Natural crystals have delicate, transparent colors with depth—no garish plastic look.

👉 Real stones visibly carry their history within them: color gradients, natural inclusions or subtle growth phases.

2. 🔍 No bubbles, no glass

A common fake is imitation glass. You can often recognize these by small air bubbles inside or by an overly smooth, shiny surface. Crystals like rock crystal or amethyst, on the other hand, exhibit fine structures and irregularities that give them life.

3. 💥 Dyed, irradiated, manipulated

Especially with agate, amethyst, and citrine , there are many treated versions available: artificially colored, irradiated, or made from burnt amethyst. Such methods destroy the stone's natural energy—even if they may appear beautiful at first glance.

4. 🪨 Origin & Transparency

Always ask about the origin! Crystals from ethically mined mines , like mines in Brazil, Uruguay, or Peru, are significantly different from mass-produced items from questionable sources.

At UNIQUECRYSTALS, I personally select every crystal – directly on-site, without intermediaries or industrial processing. Each stone is an original – with origin, heart, and character.
