What Is Ametrine?

Ametrine is a natural quartz variety in which violet amethyst and yellowish to golden citrine areas occur in a single crystal. The different color zones are related to iron in the quartz and the conditions during crystal formation.

A phantom structure forms when crystal growth is temporarily interrupted and later resumes. The earlier crystal shape remains inside as a visible growth trace.

Fluorescence Under UV Light

Under UV light, areas of these ametrine points react with visible fluorescence. Depending on the variant and lighting, the glow may appear with varying intensity. Together with the phantom structures and rainbow reflections, this creates a varied appearance.
