How Do Pyrite Cubes Form?

Pyrite is a naturally occurring iron sulfide (FeS₂) and crystallizes in the cubic crystal system. Under suitable geological and chemical conditions, iron and sulfur can crystallize into regular crystals over very long periods.

These crystals formed in the sedimentary rocks of Navajún over millions of years. Intergrowths, in which several cubes grow simultaneously and become connected, are particularly fascinating. This gives each specimen its individual shape and surface.

Small differences in edges, surfaces, luster, and natural texture are part of the character of genuine minerals and make each piece a unique natural specimen.
