Formation: Amethyst, a violet variety of quartz, forms under specific geological conditions:

1. Volcanic activity: In volcanic regions, hot magma flows through the earth's crust and creates cavities in the rocks.
2. Hydrothermal solutions: Hot, mineral-rich solutions containing silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and iron fill these cavities. Iron compounds are responsible for the violet color of the amethyst.
3. Cooling and crystallization: As the solution cools, the silicon dioxide crystallizes and forms amethyst crystals. The slow cooling process allows the growth of large, clear crystals.
4. Calcite formation: In some cases, as with this special piece, calcite crystals also grow inside the cavity.
