Origin

Around 15 million years ago, a huge meteorite struck what is now the Nördlinger Ries in Bavaria, Germany – an impact of catastrophic force. The meteorite caused extreme heat and pressure, melting the earth’s crust in the impact area into molten rock.

Part of this molten rock was thrown into the air, carried over hundreds of kilometers, and fell back to earth in what is now the Bohemian Basin in the Czech Republic. During its flight, the molten fragments hardened, forming the deep green, glassy crystals – which we know today as Moldavite.

Moldavite is thus a tektite, a natural glass that does not come from space, but was formed on earth by the meteorite impact. Each crystal tells this unique story of fire, flight, and earth’s energy 🌠💎
