Formation

About 15 million years ago, a huge meteorite struck what is now the Nördlinger Ries in Bavaria, Germany – an impact of catastrophic energy. The meteorite caused extreme heat and pressure, melting the Earth's crust in the impact area.

Part of this molten rock was ejected into the atmosphere, transported over hundreds of kilometers, and fell back to Earth in the present-day Bohemian Basin in the Czech Republic. During its flight, the molten fragments solidified, creating the deep green, glassy crystals – which we now know as Moldavite.

Moldavite is therefore a tektite, a natural glass that does not originate from space but was formed on Earth by the meteorite impact. Each crystal tells this unique story of fire, flight, and Earth energy 🌠💎
