🌍 Formation & Rarity

Ametrine is a natural variety of the quartz group and forms over millions of years in hydrothermal rock cavities – usually in only a few deposits worldwide. During crystal formation, different temperature zones affect the iron in the crystal: in cooler areas it remains stable (→ amethyst), in warmer areas it is reduced (→ citrine).

The hollandite inclusions form from fine, needle-like manganese oxide crystals that deposit inside during the growth of the quartz. Hollandite in ametrine is extremely rare and gives the piece not only rarity value but also a deeper metaphysical dimension.
