Some specimens even display their labradorescence on both sides and change character with every movement.

That is precisely what makes labradorite so special: At first glance, the stone may seem calm and almost unassuming. But as soon as light reaches its inner structure, luminous areas of color open up, seeming to emerge from deep within the crystal.

Labradorization – Where Does the Mysterious Flash Come From?

The characteristic play of color in labradorite is called labradorescence. It is not caused by a surface color, but by the mineral’s special internal structure.

Labradorite consists of extremely fine layers of feldspar with different compositions. When light hits these structures, it is refracted, reflected, and superimposed inside the stone. As a result, different colors become visible depending on the light incidence and viewing angle.

Thus, the same labradorite can glow an intense blue from one angle and suddenly reveal gold, violet, or pink with a slight movement.

Particularly Rare: Labradorite with Pink Flash

A pronounced pink flash is one of the rarer and especially sought-after color effects found in labradorite. While blue and blue-green tones occur more frequently, intense pink, rose, and magenta tones are considerably more unusual.

It is precisely the combination of pink, gold, and blue that makes some pieces in this selection particularly fascinating.
